Small Named ECFC Offensive Player of the Year

Anna Maria running back Robert Small (Sleepy Hollow, NY) was named the 2013 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Offensive Player of the Year as announced following a vote of the conference coaches. A total of 85 student-athletes received recognition after the completion of the regular season.

Husson's Earnest Wiggins earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Maritime sophomore kicker Diogo Dietrich was named the ECFC Special Teams Player of the Year. Mount Ida's Frank Civitello was named the ECFC Offensive Lineman of the Year while teammate D'Andre Smith was selected as the Rookie of the Year.

Senior linebacker Jordan Koehler (West Warwick, RI) joins Small on the ECFC All-Conference First Team on the defensive side, while sophomore wide receiver William Ricard (Billerica, Mass.) earned ECFC Second Team Offense and senior defensive back Demetri Underwood (Lynn, Mass.)was selected to the ECFC Second Team Defense.

Six AMCAT players also received honorable mention. Senior linebacker Tony Valente (Wilmington, Mass.) joins junior defensive back William Bishop (Uxbridge, Mass.), a trio of sophomores, return specialist Christopher Bettano (Tewksbury, Mass.), offensive lineman Kevin Grey (Middleboro, Mass.) and defensive lineman Tyler Rocha (Cranston, RI) and first-year punter Stefano Marziale (Cranston, RI).

ECFC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROBERT SMALL, Anna Maria College

Anna Maria running back Robert Small earned Offensive Player of the Year honors. Small led the league in rushing (136 ypg) and all-purpose yards per game (157 ypg) and was tied atop the league with 17 touchdowns. In 9 games, Small had six games over 100 yards rushing including two with over 225 yards.

Small is the AMCAT all-time leader in rushing yards (3643), all-purpose yards (4564) and rushing touchdowns (31). In 2013, Small was the first AMCAT recipient of the New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Award after a monstrous week against Maine Maritime College in which he helped lead the AMCATS to a 55-49 stunning come-from-behind victory. His stat line on the afternoon would read: 240 yards rushing with four touchdowns, 15-yard receiving touchdown.

ECFC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Husson senior defensive tackle Ernest Wiggins earned ECFC Defensive Player of the Year honors. Wiggins accounted for 7.4 tackles per game and eight sacks in ten games this season for a loss of 44 yards.

ECFC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Maritime sophomore kicker Diogo Dietrich was named the ECFC Special Teams Player of the Year. Dietrich ranked atop the league in both field goals per game and field goal percentage. The sophomore converted 9 of 12 field goal attempts with a long of 44 and connected on all 20 of his extra point trys while averaging 52-yards per kickoff.

ECFC OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE YEAR


Mount Ida senior Frank Civitello finished a four-year career in which he was the cornerstone of an offensive line that prides itself on physicality and is dedicated to being able to control the clock and run the football. Civitello led the way for a Mustangs rushing attack that gained 123 yards per game and protected for a passing offense that threw for 193 yards per game.

ECFC ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Mount Ida first year defensive back D'Andre Smith was an electric addition to the Mount Ida defense and special teams play this year. His ability to find the ball and make big plays on defense was pivotal to a Mustangs squad that was tops in the nation in passing yards allowed. Smith recorded 5.1 tackles per game with two fumble recoveries, six pass breakups and three pass blocks. On special teams, Smith was a lightning rod, averaging 34.1 yards per kickoff return, which was good for third in the nation.

 

ECFC COACH OF THE YEAR
Gallaudet head coach Chuck Goldstein was honored as the ECFC Coach Of The Year award after leading the Bison to the ECFC title with a 6-1 conference mark and an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship. The Bison earned national recognition during their 9-0 start.

ECFC all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches. Additional players honored are due to ties in the voting.
