Cross Country Opens 2015 at WNE Dual

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—The Anna Maria College cross country teams opened the 2015 season in a dual at Western New England University on Saturday morning. The outing was highlighted by a third-place finish in 22:40 by junior Maureen Moore (Newbury, Mass.) on the women’s side.

WOMEN

The women’s team saw all five runners cross the finish line, but they fell short in the dual, as Western New England held nine of the top 10 finishers in the 5K race. Sophomore Kathleen Silveira won the race in a time of 22:03 and was followed by freshman Meagan Dias, who finished seven seconds later.

Anna Maria’s Shannon Latour (Millbury, Mass.) and Victoria Fabiano (Billerica, Mass.) finished in 12th and 13th place, respectively, in times of 27:03 and 28:00. Also finishing the race for Anna Maria was Hannah Pritchett (Methuen, Mass.) and Ryanne Burke (Auburn, Mass.) in times of 30:29 and 32:59.

MEN

Sophomore Daniel Jodrey (Paxton, Mass.) led the Anna Maria men’s team with an 11th place finish in a time of 20:29 in the 5K race. Freshman Teddy Duchesne (West Barnstable, Mass.) and sophomore Brandon Andexler (Enfield, Conn.) also completed the race, finishing in the 19th and 20th slots with times of 21:53 and 22:51.

Ed Kaczenski won the race for Western New England in a time of 18:32.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Anna Maria cross country teams will be back in action next weekend when they travel to the Smith College Invitational. The men’s race will begin at 11:45 a.m. and will be preceded by the women’s start at 11:00 a.m.
