AMCATS Fall to Lasell on Senior Day

Paxton. Mass. – The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team fell to Lasell College 13-9 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at AMCAT field. With the loss the AMCATS dip to 2-12 overall and 2-6 in GNAC play while the Lasers move to 9-4 on the season and remain unbeaten, 8-0 in conference.

In a pre-game ceremony head coach Andrew Dalton thanked the five graduating seniors: Rod Henriques, Bruce Wall, Jacob Parker, Rex Wall and Kevin Hart for their contributions to Anna Maria lacrosse.

Henriques led the AMCATS with six points (4 goals, 2 assists) on the afternoon, he also added eleven ground balls. Sophomore Lucas Stralka added five goals and an assist, while Nathan Batallas grabbed six ground balls.

Lasell was led by Casey Sullivan's four goal, one assist afternoon. Junior Joe Cunning added three goals for the Lasers in the win.

It was all Lasell in the first period as the Lasers built a 3-0 lead on a goal by Andrew Suh and a duo from Cunning.

Anna Maria answered to open the second frame with scores from Henriques and Stralka to cut the deficit to 3-2 with 11:02 to play in the stanza. Each team would add a pair of scores and at  intermission Lasell would hold a marginal 5-4 lead.

Less than thirty seconds into the third period Lucas Stralka would deposit his four goal of the game and level the score at 5-all. Lasell answered with four unanswered goals to build a 9-5 lead. AMC's Henriques would find a streaking Stralka with 1:52 remaining in the third to close the gap to 9-6 heading into the final period.

Lasell quickly added a pair of goals to push the lead to 11-6 with 11:34 to play. Anna Maria would launch a comeback outscoring the Lasers 3-1 to make it a 12-9 ball game with three minutes to play but a late goal by Lasell would put the game out of reach.

Chris Thomas-Ikier and Jorge Salazar split time in net for Lasell combining for twelve saves, Franco Francioso posted 16 saves in the loss for Anna Maria.

Anna Maria closes out the 2014 campaign on the road, first up is a trip to Norwich University on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
