Hummel Takes Top Spot at Western New England

Springfield, Mass. – Sophomore Nick Hummel (Wilbraham, Mass.) won the individual 5-kilometer race for the Anna Maria College men's cross country team. The AMCATS at Western New England University for a season opening dual meet were edged by WNE 25-34 on Saturday. Hummel finish the course in a time of 18:58:5.

The AMCATS placed three runners in the top ten, Hummel was followed by Dan Sanches (Ludlow, Mass.), who finished in third place at 19:31:50 and Will Sangster (Warwick, RI) who shaved 2 minutes off his previous best.

"We had a gameplan coming in and it was executed perfectly causing us to place well." Said head coach John Nichol, "Will Sangster was able to pace the team perfectly through the first mile which allowed us to move up the next two miles. Nicky is running extremely well right now and was able to hunt down several runners from behind to come away with the victory. Both runners are primed for big seasons. We showed great composure and resiliency despite adverse conditions."
