Monks Crusade Past Men's Lacrosse, 11-3

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team was held to just one second-half goal by the Monks of Saint Joseph's College, who claimed an 11-3 road victory in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

The win boosts the Monks to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in league play, while Anna Maria falls to 1-8 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

AMCAT LEADERS

After nearly 11 minutes of scoreless play, Anna Maria scored the first goal of the game, as freshman Zachary Bryant (Saco, Maine) connected on a feed from Ryan Rockwal (Chicopee, Mass.).

At the 8:33 mark of the second quarter, senior Alex Rezendes (Nantucket, Mass.) scored off of an assist from Paul Mills (Auburn, Mass.) that evened the score at 2-2.

Anna Maria's third goal came at the 10:06 mark in the third quarter, and was a man-up goal by Rockwal, assisted by Rezendes.

SAINT JOSEPH'S LEADERS

Freshman Michael Finn (Quincy, Mass.) tallied a hat-trick and added an assist, while sophomore Cam Boucher (Lewiston, Maine) tallied two goals and two assists.

Matt Donnell (Watertown, Mass.), Brendan Barrett (East Sandwich, Mass.), Joe O'Reilly (Suffern, N.Y.), and Jake O'Brien (Andover, Mass.) all finished with a goal and an assist.

Tyler Retalic (Framingham, Mass.) and Luigi Grimaldi (Portland, Maine) both added single tallies.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Bryant's game-opening goal was scored at the 4:32 mark. With 53 seconds left on the clock in the first, O'Brien evened the score at 1-1. Midway through the second quarter the game was tied at 2-2, but three-straight goals by the Monks at 6:25, 3:17, and 2:43 sent the visitors into halftime with a 5-2 advantage.

Saint Joseph's outscored the AMCATS 5-1 in the third quarter and scored the only goal of the fourth quarter at the 9:03 mark en route to the 11-3 win.

GOALTENDERS

Connor Trainor (Franklin, Mass.) earned the win in net, tallying 10 saves in 40:54 of action. Wyatt Porter (Pittsfield, Mass.) stopped all six shots he faced in the final 19:06 of action. Freshman Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded 14 saves for Anna Maria.

FINAL COMPARISONS

Saint Joseph's won 10 out of 18 face-offs on the day and outshot the AMCATS 41-29. The Monks were successful on 17-of-19 clears, while Anna Maria finished 13-of-27.

Anna Maria travels to Norwich on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. GNAC tilt, while Saint Joseph's hosts Southern Maine in a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game on the same day.
