Mitchell men’s golf tops Anna Maria

GROTON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's golf team won a head-to-head match-up against Anna Maria College on Wednesday afternoon at Shennecossett Golf Course.

The Mariners combined for a team score of 362 to best Anna Maria's total of 380. Sophomore Matt Grudgen (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) led Mitchell and turned in the low round for the day with an 82. Tom Randell (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) was only three shots back for Anna Maria and finished second with an 85.

Grudgen shot 39 on the back nine to post his lowest round of the season. Mitchell's Michael Pinkerton (New Orleans, La./Jefferson) and Nick Braunreuther (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) each carded rounds of 90 to finish tied for third. Pinkerton shot 45 on each side while Braunreuther overcame a 48 on the front with a 42 on the back. Freshmen Mark Cardi (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) and Orson Sinclair (New London, Conn./K12 International Acad.) rounded out the scoring for the Mariners with totals of 100 and 138, respectively.

Mitchell Rogers (Spencer, Mass./David Prouty) and Lucas Davis (Spencer, Mass./David Prouty) both finished in double digits for the AMCATS with rounds of 95 and 99, respectively. Chris Gosselin (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) and Cody Mulverhill (Sutton, Mass./Sutton) each came in at 101 to complete Anna Maria's scoring.

Mitchell will next compete at the Newbury Invitational on Friday, September 20 at Wedgewood Pines Country Club. Anna Maria will next host Worcester State University on September 23 at 4 p.m.
