Women’s Ice Hockey Open ECHA Playoffs with 3-1 Win Over Rivier

WORCESTER, MA: The second-seeded Anna Maria College women's ice hockey began the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) playoffs on Friday evening at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center taking on the third-seeded Rivier University Raiders.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The AMCATS were the first ones on the scoreboard when senior forward Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, MA) scored her second goal of the season at the 13:49 mark of the first period. The defensive pairing of freshman Tessa Henry (Milestone, SK) and senior Abigail Vigliotte (Medford, MA) were credited with their second and eighth assists of the season respectively.
  • The AMCATS doubled their lead to 2-0 early in the second period when junior forward Shayla MacDonald (Victoria, BC) scored her fourth goal of the season with just under four minutes expired. Graduate student forward Riley Cote (Tewksbury, MA) and senior defenseman Ashley Dickinson (Bowmanville, ON) earned the assists.
  • In the third period, MacDonald would record her first-ever multi-goal game when she lit the lamp for the fifth time this season just over six minutes into the final frame. Senior forward Grace Dodge (St. Paul, MN) provided the helper on the goal. It was the fifth assist of the season for Dodge.
  • The Raiders made an effort to get back into the game with a power-play goal with a little under half of the final period gone by when Ellie Grady put home the puck with the assist going to Jessica Driscoll.
  • Senior goaltender Sam Dahill (Littleton, MA) turned away 33 of the 34 shots that she faced, improving her record to 3-7-1.

Anna Maria will be in action again on Sunday when they will face the Worcester State Lancers in the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) playoff finals. The puck will drop at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center at 4:20 pm.
