Lancers Strike Down Women’s Ice Hockey 4-2

WORCESTER, MA: The Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team traveled down the road on Tuesday, January 17th to take on the Worcester State Lancers at the Worcester Ice Center. The AMCATS fell 4-2.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Tuesday, January 17, 2023

  • Records: Worcester State Lancers (9-6-0; 1-0-0) | Anna Maria AMCATS (2-13-1; 1-2-1)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Going down early in the first period the AMCATS went into the second trailing behind the lancers by two.
  • With a goal just under two minutes into the second period the AMCATS found themselves now trailing behind by 3 goals. 
  • Holding off the lancers for the remainder of the second period the AMCATS returned to the locker room to regroup for the final period.
  • Coming out with fresh legs in the third period the AMCATS found themselves up on the board just under four minutes into the period with a goal from Angelina Rodriguez, assisted by Abigail Vigliotte
  • Trailing by two the AMCATS tuck a late goal in to cut the Lancers lead down to one with Jordyn Bleaney finding the back of the net off of an assist from Sara Simmons and A. Rodriguez.
  • After pulling the goalie for a last minute attempt to tie the game up the AMCATS were met with an empty net goal from the Lancers securing the score at 4-2.
  • Freshman Goaltender Aurora Vanwormer joined the game late in the second period stopping 23-24 shots to help give the AMCATS a fighting chance.

Anna Maria will be in action again on Friday, January 20th celebrating the teams Senior Day where they will host Assumption University at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, MA. Puck drop is at 7:50PM
