Softball Sweeps Badgers At Home

WORCESTER, MA: On Saturday afternoon, the Anna Maria College Softball team hosted the Vermont Johnson Badgers for a non-conference doubleheader at Normand R. Marois Field on the campus of Assumption College.

THE BASICS:

• Date: Saturday March 16, 2024 
• Game 1: Vermont State Johnson 0, Anna Maria 18 (5Innings)
• Game 2: Vermont State Johnson 0, Anna Maria 12 (5 Innings)
• Records: Vermont State Johnson Badgers 1-9 | Anna Maria AMCATS 3-7

HIGHLIGHTS

• GAME 1 
o In the first game, senior pitcher Eden Forget threw a complete game throwing a one-hitter, striking out 13in only five innings without allowing a run or a walk.
o The AMCATS would start the offense early as Shay Savoie would get on base after getting hit with a ball and use her speed to find herself at third base. Shay would then start the scoring for the AMCTS as a pass ball would get by the catcher and Shay would come home for the first run of the game. 
o The AMCATS would continue the offense strong as the AMCATS would score four in the first inning the other three runs coming off a single down the right field line off Kaitlyn Hicks scoring Madisyn Crossman and Kiara Edmonds. That would then increase the lead for the AMCATS over the Badgers 3 to 0. 
o The AMCATS would continue the scoring getting one more run before the first inning would end. The run coming off a fielder's choice resulting in the 4 runs in the first inning for the AMCATS as Ella Moon would come into score. 
o The AMCATS would continue to put on the offense, as the bases would be loaded with no outs against the Badgers. The AMCATS would get three more runs in the second inning to increase their lead over the Badgers. 
o The AMCATS fifth run would come off a double from Shay Savioe down the right field line. The AMCATS would score Paige Stewart off the double. Increasing the lead 5 to 0 for the AMCATS.
o The AMCATS would then score again with the bases loaded in the second inning off a sacrifice fly from Kiara Edmonds scoring Shay Savioe. That would increase the lead for the AMCATS, over the Badgers 6 to 0. 
o The AMCATS would get one more run before the second inning would close scoring Madisyn Crossman. That would conclude the second inning with the AMCATS up 7 to 0 at the end of the second inning. 
o The AMCATS would not let down and continue to push the strong offense in the third inning scoring three more runs to increase their lead over the Badgers.
o The AMCATS would score Madison-Marie Romano to increase the AMCATS lead to 8 off a double from Madison Levesque.
Eden Forget would single up the middle to score Emma Jeffrey for the AMCATS increasing the lead to 9. 
o The last run of the inning would come of a sacrifice fly from Kiara Edmonds to score Eden Forget. That would increase the AMCATS lead to 10 to 0 at the end of the third inning. 
o The fourth inning would be strong for the AMCATS as they would continue to pound on the runs scoring eight runs in the fourth inning increasing the lead to 18 to 0 against the Badgers. 
o The AMCATS would take advantage of the Badgers errors continue to score off doubles, singles, and errors in the fourth inning. 
o That would conclude the game for the AMCATS as the final would be 18 to 0 against the Badgers in the first game. 

 Game 2: 

o In the second game, grad student pitcher Sabrina Listonthrew a complete game throwing a one-hitter, striking out 7 in only five innings without allowing a run or a walk. 
o The AMCATS would get right back into against the Badgers in game two loading the bases in the first inning to start the scoring. 
o The AMCATS offense would start as they capitalize on the Badgers errors when Shay Savoie would reach on an error, and then continue to second base off the error. It would then be Madison-Marie Romano to ground out to second base and score Shay Savoie. That would get the first run on the board for the AMCATS. 
o Sam Dahill would then get a single up the left field line, and then would score off a single from SabrinaListon as the Badgers would make errors resulting in Sam Dahill to score for the AMCATS in the first inning. That would increase the lead for the AMCATS 2 to 0 at the end of the first inning. 
o The second inning would be strong for the AMCATS as well, as they would again capitalize off errors from the Badgers to score their runs. 
o Eden would hit a single into right field scoring off the errors from right field resulting in Gabriella Vasquezwho was on second base to score off the error in right field as well. That would increase th AMCATS lead in the second inning 4 to 0 against the Badgers. 
o The third inning would score one run for the AMCATS as Zoey Lain would get an inside the park home run for the AMCATS scoring two runs as Ella Moon was on base. That would increase the AMCATS lead 6 to 0. 
o The fourth inning would be strong for the AMCATS as they would score six runs in the inning. 
o The fourth inning would start with a triple from Shay Savoie that would score Eden Forget and then resulted in Shay Savoie scoring off on an error from the left fielder. That would result in two more runs for the AMCATS. That would increase the lead 8 to 0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. 
o The offense and scoring would continue for the AMCATS as Sabrina Liston would double and score Ella Moon and Paige Stewart, that increasing the lead to 10 to 0. 
Mackenzie Evers would single and score Sabrina Liston to increase the AMCATS lead to 11 to 0. 
Eden Forget doubled to score Mackenzie Evers to add to the AMCATS lead 12 to 0. 
o That would conclude the game for the AMCATS and the AMCATS would come out on top 12 to 0 in the second game against the Badgers.
 
 Inside The Numbers:
• Game 1: 
Eden Forget strikes out 13 batters in five innings allowing no runs or walks. 
o Four different AMCATS hit doubles in the game. 
o The AMCATS had five stolen bases in the game.
o The AMCATS score the most amount of runs this season.
• Game 2: 
Sabrina Liston strikes out 7 batters in five innings allowing no runs or walks. 
o Zoey Laine gets an inside the park homerun in the game for her first homerun of the season, and for the AMCATS. 
o AMCATS get two more doubles with a total of 14 this season. 
o AMCATS mark the first sweep of the season.
