Cougars Take Game Two Against Softball 4-3

FT. MYERS, FL: On Tuesday March 5th, the Anna Maria College Softball played a game against Clark University a non-conference opponent at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at the North Collier Sports Complex. 

THE BASICS: 

  • Date: Tuesday, March 5, 2023 
  • Game 1: Clark University 4 Anna Maria 3 
  • Records: Clark University 1-3 | Anna Maria AMCATS 1-6 

HIGHLIGHTS: 

The Cougars of Clark University would start the scoring early in this game with three runs in the top of the first inning. The Cougars would start off with a leadoff walk, by Samantha Crowley, who would then steal second base off a pass ball. It would be Rebecca Mauro who would single up the middle resulting in the Cougars to get the first run of the game. Magdalena Barthel would fly out to center field scoring Rebecca Mauro for the Cougars. That would increase the Cougars lead by two runs. It would then be Madison Dillon to single for the Cougars would result in Felicia Salvati to score for the Cougars, bringing in their third run of the inning. The AMCATS would get the third out in the first inning to stop the Cougars offensive rally being down three to nothing but plenty of game left for the AMCATS. The AMCATS would be strong and create offense in the top of the third inning, as Shay Savoie would single for the AMCATS up the middle and move to third off errors in the field from the Cougars. That putting Shay Savoie in scoring postion, Kaitlyn Hicks would ground out to third base, scoring Shay Savoie, as that would be the first run of the game for the AMCATS. The Cougars would get out of the inning, but the AMCATS would get a run to cut the Cougars lead by two runs. It would not take the Cougars long to earn their run back as in the bottom of the third inning Rebecca Mauro would double to left field as the leadoff batter, and Madison Dillon would then double to center field scoring Rebecca Mauro for the Cougars. The Cougars would again regain the lead by three runs as it would be 4 to 1 now in the bottom of third inning. The AMCATS would need to get the bats going and create some offense to score some runs against the Cougars. The AMCATS would capitalize in the third inning scoring a run to cut the Cougars lead by two again. The hit would come off Shay Savoie doubling to score Ella Moon to get the AMCATS second run of the game. The AMCATS would keep the Cougars off the board the rest of the game but still would need to battle back and score some runs. It would be in the top of the seventh inning when Shay Savioe would single as the lead off battle then through the middle, and then steal second base, putting her in scoring position. It would be Kaitlyn Hicks to single through the middle for the AMCATS scoring Shay Savioe and then capitalizing on the Cougars error of an overthrow to run to second base. It would then be Eden Forget to put a sacrifice bunt down to move the tying run Kaitlyn Hicks to third base with one out. The AMCATS rally would fall short in the top of the seventh inning resulting in the Cougars to get the last out of the inning and leaving the tying run Kaitlyn Hicks on third base. It would be a close one for the AMCATS but it would be an unsuccessful comeback as they would fall short and lose the game to the Clark Cougars 4 to 3.

Anna Maria would leave Fort Myers, FL and wrap up their spring break trip, heading back to Paxton, Massachusetts with some days off before they take on a double header against Vermont State Johnson on March 16th games are at 12:00 and 2:00pm.
