Rockford Too Much For Softball

 FT. MYERS, FL: On Tuesday March 5th, the Anna Maria College Softball played a game against Rockford University a non-conference opponent at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at the North Collier Sports Complex. 

THE BASICS:

  • Records: Rockford University 3-1 | Anna Maria AMCATS 1-5 

HIGHLIGHTS: 

The Regents of Rockford University started the game strong in the first inning getting on top of the AMCATS by six runs. The AMCATS errors in the first inning would result in a rally for the Regents. The first inning would start with Belle Lima who would single through the left side and then steal second base. The AMCATS would walk Emily Down, and then Kariana Williams would single to left center, scoring Belle Lima and moving Emily Down to second base for the Regents. The AMCATS would then walk Enedy Perez which would load the bases for the Regents. It would then be Makayla Howard who would single through the middle moving the runners and scoring another run for the Regents. That would increase their lead on the AMCATS 2 to 0. It would then be Lauren Zielinski to single to center field scoring two runners for the Regents. That would increase the Regents lead to 4 to 0. The scoring would continue for the Regents in the first inning as Olivia Lysaght singled through the left side, and the AMCATS would make an error in the field resulting in two runners coming in off the single from Olivia Lysaght. The Regents would take a 6 to 0 lead in the top of the first inning. The AMCATS would get the third out in the first inning to stop the rally for the Regents. The AMCATS would need to rally back and get the bats going to catch the Regents of Rockford. The AMCATS would get their first run in the game in the third inning. The AMCATS would start the inning with a walk from Paige Stewart. It would then be Shay Savioe who would single on a bunt, that would move the runners, but then the Regents would make an error trying to throw out Shay Savoie but overthrowing the first baseman resulting in Paige Stewart moving to third. It would then be Shay Savoie stealing second, as the Regents try to get her out, but are unsuccessful would result in Paige Stewart stealing home for the AMCATS first run of the game. The Regents would score two more runs against the AMCATS, one in the top of the fifth inning off a sacrifice fly from Enedy Perez to left field scoring Emily Down to add to the Regents lead. The Regents would add one more run in the top of the sixth inning. The Regents would get a single up the middle from Bella Lima and Jocelyn Callahan would score totaling the Regents of Rockford to have eight total runs for the game. The Regents would keep the AMCATS off the board for the rest of the game. The AMCATS would finish the game seven runs behind the Regents for a final of 8 to 1.

Anna Maria will continue their spring break trip with one more game at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, FL before heading back to Paxton, Massachusetts. The first pitch of the last game will be at 11:00am with a rematch against the Clark University Cougars.
