BOXSCORE GAME 1

BOXSCORE GAME 2

PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College softball team split a doubleheader against visiting Roger Williams University on Tuesday in Paxton.

BASICS:

Date: Tuesday, April 12, 2022

Score: Roger Williams 4, Anna Maria 6

Score: Roger Williams 9, Anna Maria 0

Records: Hawks of Roger Williams University 5-21 | AMCATS of Anna Maria 11-17

TURNING POINT:

  • GAME ONE – Was a game that was not as close as the score would indicate. Sophomore pitcher Eden Forget (Worcester, MA) was dominant for four innings. While the Hawks had runners on base each inning, Forget only allowed a single run until the fifth inning, not allowing another runner past second base until Taylor Howell hit a solo home run in the fifth for the visitors.
    • The AMCATS came out roaring in the first inning. After the Hawks scored one in the top of the first, the AMCATS came back to score one of their own. Senior second baseman Michelle Cilley (Dracut, MA) led off the inning with a single to right-center and moved to third on a double to left by senior third baseman Samantha Dahill (Littleton, MA). Sophomore catcher Saylor Costa (E. Providence, RI) then hit a long fly ball to right that allowed Cilley to scamper home.
    • The second inning was the AMCATS big inning, scoring three runs on three hits. Senior first baseman Ashley Garcia (Cornwall, NY) led off the inning with a single to left-center and moved to second on an infield bunt single by sophomore Kiara Edmonds (Lynn, MA). A sacrifice bunt by freshman left fielder Samantha Rintoul-Bonneau (Worcester, MA) moved both runners along. Garcia would then come around to score on a fielder's choice by Kiara Register who hit a lined shot to the Hawks' third baseman who threw home as Garcia slid under the tag. Register moved to second on the throw and Rintoul-Bonneau moved to third. Cilley then brought both Rintoul-Bonneau and Register home with a single into centerfield.
    • Dahill capped off the AMCATS scoring in the fourth inning when she hit her team-leading second home run of the season. A two-run shot that scored pinch-runner, freshman, Raven Carriere (Labroquerie West, MB) from third.
  • GAME TWO – The AMCATS could never find a gear against Hawks starter Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, MA). Nocella kept the AMCATS off-kilter with a series of in and out pitches and held the AMCATS to one fifth-inning single by pinch hitter Costa.

UP NEXT:
