PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader against visiting Worcester State University on Monday in Paxton.

BASICS:

TURNING POINT:

  • GAME ONE – The AMCATS were leading 5-1 after five innings before the wheels came off in the top of the sixth. The Lancers strung together a series of infield hits, a single, and made the most of an error to tie the game at five. Then a trio of big hits, a two-run double by Molly Glynn (Abington, MA), an RBI double by Lauren Dube (Leominster, MA), and a two-run home run by Rachel Sinclair (Westminster, MA) set the final score at 10-5.
  • GAME TWO – Started well for the AMCATS as sophomore pitcher Eden Forget (Worcester, MA) was able to set the Lancers down in order. After that, the game quickly got out of hand with the Lancers putting up crooked numbers in each of the next four innings.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Forget had a decent day at the plate, going 1-2 with a run scored in each game. In game two her fourth-inning leadoff triple setup to the AMCATS's first run of the game.
  • Senior first baseman Ashley Garcia (Cornwall, NY) made her first plate appearance since March 7th against Penn State-Abington and went 1-3 with three RBIs in game one.
  • Senior Sabrina Liston extended her hitting streak to nine, with hits in both games. She also had a run scored and another driven-in in each game to go with two walks in game one.
  • For the Lancers, Dube finished the day with eight runs batted in, seven in game two alone.
  • Lancers' game two pitcher, Jen Thorburn (Groton, MA), scattered five hits while allowing two runs to earn the win and improve her record to 6-3 for the season.

UP NEXT:

The AMCATS will return to the field on Tuesday with a doubleheader at home against Northern Vermont-Johnson. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 pm.
