AMCAT Softball Names Team Captains

Paxton, MA- This week, Anna Maria College Softball head coach Larry Sasso announced this Spring's team captains.

The AMCAT Softball team will be led by seniors, Ashley Garcia (Cornwall, NY), Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA) and Kassandra Register (Bakersfield, CA).

"Our coaching staff is happy to announce three seniors as our captains for this season.  Ashley, Sabrina, and Kassandra have always put the team first, they have sacrificed, prepared, and worked really hard to get where they are today, said Coach Sasso."  "These leaders have always performed at the highest level both on the field, in the classroom, and in the community, I am very proud of them, said Coach Sasso."

These captains have led the way with good character, tremendous work ethic, dedication, and sportsmanship.  They work hard, thriving for success, and do it in a professional way.  As John Maxwell says, "Anyone can steer the ship, It takes a leader to chart the course."  They proved it the last two years during the toughest times, battling COVID-19 and everything else it takes to be a college student as well as playing a sport at the same time.

Ashley Garcia (Ash) will be playing in her fourth season this year; she was the first recruit to come on board with the new coaching staff in 2017.  Ashley was named a captain near the end of her freshman year, she quickly emerged as a leader and someone we could build a program around.  Ashley is a power hitter, and someone pitchers will fear, she can change a game with one swing.  She is one of the best first basemen in the conference.  No ball is hit too hard for her to block, her ability to scoop balls out of the dirt has kept many batters off the bases.  Anything is possible this year, she is very determined, and we love it!

Sabrina Liston (Sab) has quietly become a top pitcher in the GNAC, this year she will be surrounded by a very good defensive team, and she will benefit with many wins.  I am so proud of Sab; she has overcome potential career ending injuries and has no fear.  Sab finished last year on a strong note, she pitched a really great game against the GNAC champion in the programs first ever playoff game.  Sab has worked hard to get stronger; her velocity has increased each year; she has a lot of movement on her fast ball and has perfected the changeup.  We believe Sab is ready to take it to the highest level this year!

Kassandra Register (Kass) is a closer in the outfield.  Kass reads the ball off the bat extremely well and gets to almost every ball.  Kass has made just about every play in the field, she makes it look easy, and knows her angles well on gappers.  When Kass is at the plate she can hurt teams with her bat, and speed.  When Kass gets on base we will rely on her instincts and speed to score as often as possible, she has the green light to go at any time!  Kass resides in California, she came a long way, we are sure glad she did.  Kass is calm, she is cool, and very smart, she has all the tools, we can't wait to see her on the field in 2022.

The Anna Maria College Softball team will be opening their season on March 6, 2022, in North Myrtle Beach, SC.  The AMCATS will play eight of their 40 games in Myrtle Beach. The AMCATS will play their home opener on Thursday, March 22nd against Clark University.
