Men’s Soccer Hold on for 3-2 Win Over Blazers

PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College men's soccer team hosted Elms College on Wednesday afternoon for Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Caparso Field.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Wednesday, October 19, 2022
  • Score: Elms 2, Anna Maria 3
  • Records: Elms Blazers 4-10-1 (1-8-1 GNAC) | Anna Maria AMCATS 2-9-2 (2-6-2 GNAC)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The three-goal barrage of offense for the AMCATS in the first half, marked the first time this season that they had scored more than one goal in any game. The last time the AMCATS had found the back of the net more than once was last season against the same Blazers, in a 4-2 loss on October 6th.
  • Senior forward Hezekiah Adeyeye (Woonsocket, RI) scored the AMCATS first two goals. The first goal came in the 13th minute off an AMCAT throw-in that was headed down by senior forward Matthew Pearle (East Wareham, MA) directly to the charging Adeyeye who carried the ball in between defenders and fired off a shot from about 20 yards out for his fifth goal of the year.
  • The Blazers Musa Jiana responded with a goal less than a minute later to even the game at one goal each.
  • Adeyeye scored his second of the game in the 24th minute. Adeyeye out-raced a Blazer defender to the ball just inside the penalty area after an Oliver Fanfan (West Yarmouth, MA) pass, settled the ball, and rocketed a shot to the short side of the net.
  • The AMCATS doubled their lead about four minutes later as Adeyeye repaid Pearle for his earlier assist, setting up Pearle around the penalty stripe. Pearle split through the defenders, collected the pass from Adeyeye fired past the charging Blazers goalie.
  • The AMCATS held that 3-1 advantage until Jiana tallied his second score of the game in the 55th minute.
  • AMCATS graduate student Valter Santiago (Norwood, MA) finished the game with five saves on seven shots on goal.
  • The two goals scored by Adeyeye represented the most goals scored by an AMCATS player since Rubelsi Moran and Nick Lawrence each scored two goals against Rivier on October 2, 2021.
