Men’s Lacrosse Mauled by Cougars

UNION, NJ: The Anna Maria College women's lacrosse team traveled to meet the Kean University Cougars Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at Alumni Stadium.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Saturday, March 11, 2023
  • Score: Anna Maria 5, Kean 22
  • Records: Anna Maria AMCATS 1-5 | Kean University Cougars 4-0

HIGHLIGHTS

  • It was a very long day for the AMCATS who found themselves trailing 7-0 after the first period and were behind 10-0 before sophomore attacker Hank Gittines (Shrewsbury, NJ) scored with an assist from sophomore midfielder Nathan Powers (Putney, VT).
  • Trailing 13-1 at halftime, Gittines scored the AMCATS' second goal of the game only four seconds into the third period. This goal was unassisted. Gittines was also involved in the AMCATS' third goal when he provided an assist to junior midfielder Tommy Girard (Newbury, MA) to cut the lead back down to 10. It would be as close as the AMCATS would get however with the Cougars closing out the third period on a 5-0 run.
  • The run would be extended to six before Gittines and Powers would connect for a second time and allow Gittines to complete his third hattrick of the season and the fifth of his career. The three goals give Gittines a team-leading 14 goals and 15 points through five games played. The two assists for Powers brought his season total to three.
  • With just under three minutes left in regulation, Girard scored what would be the AMCATS final goal with a helper credited to sophomore midfielder Liam Badenkop (Marson Mills, MA). The goal was Girard's ninth of the season while the assist was Badenkop's first of the year.
