Golden Bears Cant Keep Up With Men's Hockey

SPRINGFIELD, MA. – On Saturday, January 13th the Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team traveled to Springfield, MA to take on the Western New England University Golden Bears. The AMCATS won the game 6-3.

The AMCATS opened the scoring with a goal just seven minutes into the first period after Spencer Carpenter tipped in a shot from Bryden Sinclair and Nicholas Frederick. The AMCATS kept the momentum going scoring almost seven minutes later as Braeden McKinnon buried the second goal of the night off the pass from Cam Tobey and Justin Taylor. Leading 2-0 as the first period came to a close, the AMCATS dominated the start of the game as they outshot the Bears 17-7.

After the intermission, the Bears were met with a quick goal from the AMCATS to improve their lead to 3-0 as Guillaume Coulombe scored a wrap around off the rebound from Sean McWhinnie and Sam Mouland. Following the AMCATS third goal, the Bears picked up the pace, finding their first goal of the night just two minutes later off the stick of Justin Sullivan. The AMCATS would answer right back with the help of Giovani Perillo tipping in the shot from Justin Taylor to bring the Anna Maria lead back to three goals. The Golden Bears weren't done firing back however as Brayden Patricia found the back of the net a few minutes later while on the power play, cutting the AMCATS lead in half. Undeterred, the AMCATS answered right back with a power play goal from Matthew Gilbert off the assist from Derek Raposo to make it a 5-2 game with just over five minutes left to go in the second period. Just when we thought the period couldn't get any more interesting, the Bears capped things off with their third goal of the night from Kyle Knight just a minute after the goal from Gilbert. The second period would end with a score of 5-3 in favor of the AMCATS.

Just two goals away from tying the game up, the AMCATS added some insurance early in the the third period when Max Wennerberg sound the back of the net for the AMCATS sixth goal of the night. The Bears would be unable to score in the third period as Matthew Hennessy stopped all ten shots faced to help the AMCATS secure the win.
