Bakers Scores in OT as Men’s Ice Hockey Take Down Golden Bears

AUBURN, MA: The Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team took on the Western New England University Golden Bears at the Horgan Arena on Saturday evening.

THE BASICS:

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Freshman defenseman Pearce Baker (King, ON) scored 35 seconds into the overtime period to send the AMCATS home with the victory. The goal was Baker's fourth of the season.
  • Senior Nolan Shaw (Peabody, MA) opened the scoring in the game less than four minutes into the first period when he put home a rebound of a shot by junior center Guillaume Coulombe (Ste-Julie, QC).
  • After two second-period goals by the visitors, the AMCATS brought the game back to a tie just over a minute into the third period when freshman forward Carter Anderson scored his sixth goal of the season. Senior Mike Padgeon (Sellersville, PA) and freshman Braeden McKinnon (Holland Landing, ON) were credited with their fifth and seventh assists respectively.
  • The score would remain tied for only six and a half minutes when the Bears scored again. Still, the AMCATS wouldn't take it lying down for long when sophomore forward Matt Byrne (Penticton, BC) evened the score at three apiece with just under seven and a half minutes left in regulation.
  • Freshman goaltender Cole Johnston (Regina, SK) recorded 18 saves on 22 shots.

Anna Maria will be in action again on Tuesday when they play host to the Wesleyan University Cardinals at Horgan Arena. The teams will take the ice for a 5:40 PM puck drop.
