Men’s Hockey Drops Close One in Overtime to #13 Curry College

CANTON, MA: The Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team traveled to Canton, MA to take on the #13 Curry College Colonels. The AMCATS lost the game in overtime 5-4

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Friday, January 6, 2023

HIGHLIGHTS

  • After giving up a goal early in the first period the AMCATS responded with an unassisted goal from Nolan Shaw who brought the game back to even.
  • Keeping the momentum rolling Aryan Batra found himself up on the board with a goal assisted by Michael Padgeon and August Bouveng.
  • Derek Raposo was the next AMCAT to find the back of the net tucking away a power play goal with just under 6 minutes left in the first period. Putting the AMCATS up on the Colonels 3-1 in the first period. Raposo was assisted by Matthew Byrne and Brandon Della Paolera.
  • A late goal from Curry at the end of the first brought the score to 3-2 going into the second period.
  • After a bit of back and forth in the second period Curry found themselves on the board to tie things up. 
  • The AMCATS started the third period tied up with the Colonels 3-3.
  • An early goal in the final period from the Colonels put the AMCATS down by one with just over 16 minutes left in regulation time.
  • After a relentless effort in the third period the AMCATS still trailed behind the Colonels with the clock winding down to just over five minutes left in play before Brandon Della Paolera found the back of the net with a lacrosse style goal to tie the game up at four.
  • Bringing the #13 Colonels to overtime the AMCATS played 3 minutes of 3 on 3 before Curry found the back of the net to win the game.
  • Della Paolera (1G, 1A) and Byrne (2A) led the AMCATS with two points a piece in the effort against the Colonels. Goaltender Cole Johnston also stopped 40 out of 45 shots to keep the AMCATS in the game.

Anna Maria will be in action again on Saturday January 7th where they will host the Western New England Golden Bears at the Horgan Arena in Auburn, MA. Puck drop will be at 5:40PM.
