Men’s Hockey Can’t Hold On In Overtime

BOSTON, MA: The Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team traveled to Boston,MA on Friday night to take on the UMASS-Boston Beacons. The AMCATS lost the game 3-2 in overtime.

THE BASICS:

• Date: Friday, December 2, 2022
• Score: UMB 3, Anna Maria 2

HIGHLIGHTS

• The AMCATS started the game off slow giving up a goal 2:49 into the first period. 
• The Beacons found the back of the net again 11:51 into the first period. The AMCATS were able to hold them off for the rest of the first but found themselves trailing by two going into the second.
• Goaltender Cole Johnston Gave the AMCATS a fighting chance in the second period holding the Beacons at two with 19 saves on 19 shots. 
• The AMCATS found their stride late in the third period with a goal from Derek Raposo who was assisted by Cam Tobey, 13:57 into the third period.
• Less than 2 minutes later The AMCATS were back on the board, Tobey found the back of the net off of an assist from Matthew Byrne on the power play tying the game up with less than 5 minutes left in regulation play.
• Tied at two the AMCATS took the Beacons to overtime. 
• Despite Anna Maria's late success, UMASS dominated overtime play outshooting the AMCATS 8 shots to 1. Johnston kept Anna Maria in the game all the way until the final seconds of overtime where the Beacons scored a power play goal with just 4 seconds left in overtime. 
• Johnston posted 45 saves on 48 shots.
