Men’s Ice Hockey Roll Over Lancers at Woo Cup Behind Coulombe Hat Trick

WORCESTER, MA: The Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team took on the Worcester State Lancers in the consolation game of the Woo Cup at the Worcester Ice Center on Sunday afternoon.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Sunday, October 30, 2022
  • Score: Anna Maria 10, Worcester State 2
  • Records: Anna Maria AMCATS 1-1-0 | Worcester State Lancers 0-2-0

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior center Guillaume Coulombe (Ste-Julie, QC) recorded the second hat trick in the history of the AMCATS men's ice hockey program, joining Jack Sitzman. The latter performed the feat on December 7, 2020, against Post University.
  • Freshman winger Brandon Della Paolera (Osoyoos, BC) set an AMCATS record by recording five assists, topping the previous record of three assists that multiple players had done, most recently Derek Raposo last season against Albertus Magnus on February 5th.
  • The 10 goals in a single game is a new high for the AMCATS program, topping the seven they scored last season against Franklin Pierce on February 8th.
  • Junior goaltender Aidan Richardson (Pittsford, NY) recorded 31 saves on 33 shots in his first start for the AMCATS. The win improves his record to 1-0-0 on the year and was his fourth collegiate career win following the three he earned at Lebanon Valley College before transferring.
  • The AMCATS were aggressive and scored early and often in this game. They ran out to a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes on goals from Coulombe (assisted by Nolan Shaw (Peabody, MA) and Della Paolera at 3:14), Cam Tobey (Falmouth, MA) (assisted by August Bouveng (Nynashamns, SWE.) at 7:46), and Matthew Byrne (assisted by Coulombe at 9:00). After two goals by the Lancers Shaw scored a goal of his own at 16:49 (assisted by Coulombe and Della Paolera) to give the AMCATS a 4-2 lead after one period.
  • The AMCATS kept the pressure on in the second period, scoring four more unanswered goals. The first two goals came only 19 seconds apart and were scored by Coulombe at 1:13 and 1:32. Della Paolera assisted on both, while Shaw also assisted on the second.
  • Less than two minutes later, sophomore defenseman Derek Raposo (Hannon, ON) scored with an assist from Della Paolera at the 3:17 mark. Senior winger Michael Padgeon (Sellersville, PA) capped off the period with a goal at 15:47 (assisted by Maxandre Pelletier (Rimouski, QC) and Bouveng) to make the score 8-2.
  • The third period allowed the AMCATS to take their foot off the gas a bit and only score two goals. The first three minutes and 10 seconds into the period by Braeden McKinnon (Holland Landing, ON) (assisted by Samson Mouland (Hay River, NT) and Byrne), and the second at 8:01 was scored by Giovanni Perillo (Montreal, QC) (assisted by Pelletier and Patrick Peltola (Espoo, Finland)).
