Raposo’s First Goal Wins It For Men’s Ice Hockey At Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, CT: The Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team won 3-2 at Wesleyan University on Tuesday evening at the Spurrier-Snyder Rink in Middletown, Connecticut.

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The AMCATS struck first, with senior center Quinn Tucker (Hancock, NH) scoring his third goal of the season just 4:30 into the game, assisted by junior left defenseman Cam Tobey (Falmouth, MA).
  • With 8:08 to go in the first, Anna Maria senior center and team captain Sam Cyr-Ledoux (Montreal, QC) made it 2-0 with his fourth goal of the season, as he tied for the AMCATS' lead for points on the season with 12. Assists on the play went to freshman left wing Samuel Gaudreau (Cornwall, ON) and sophomore center Matthew Gilbert (Wyandotte, MI).
  • The Cardinals got a goal back 2:26 into the second when Wesleyan sophomore forward Uri Lurie (Lexington, MA) found the back of the net, assisted by
  • Senior forward Tyler Levine (Laguna Beach, CA) and senior forward Danny Sorabella (Reading, MA).
  • With 15:46 to go in the game, Levine scored the equalizer, assisted by junior forward Wiggle Kerbrat (Laguna Niguel, CA).
  • With 10:24 to go in the game and the score tied for the first time since the opening minutes, Anna Maria freshman right defenseman Derek Raposo (Hannon, ON) scored the eventual game-winner on his first career goal on an unassisted shot.
  • Anna Maria senior goaltender Brendan Boncore (Oakland, MI) finished with 33 saves on the night for a .943 save percentage.
  • Wesleyan junior goalie Nate Romanelli (Duxbury, MA) had 18 stops for the Cardinals.
  • Shots on goal were 35-21 in favor of Wesleyan.

 

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be back on the ice on Saturday when they host Rivier for a 6:40 p.m. game. The AMCATS will recognized their graduating senior class as part of Senior Night.
