Football Celebrates Homecoming With Win Over Bulldogs

PAXTON, MA : As the Anna Maria College community celebrated Homecoming weekend with so many of their alumni in attendance, the AMCAT football team welcomed them home by continuing their best season ever with a 45-32 victory over visiting Dean College on Saturday afternoon at Carposo Field in Paxton.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Anna Maria senior quarterback Alex Cohen (Plymouth, MA) threw for five touchdowns for the second time this season while rushing for a sixth. Cohen went 24-for-40 for a career-high 451 yards passing and 39 yards rushing. Cohen's passing total destroyed the previous single-game total in AMCAT history, that set on November 10, 2012 by former Anna Maria great Santino Simone with 349 passing yards.
  • Anna Maria sophomore wide receiver Deandre Wallace (Waterbury, CT) continued his dominant rookie season, pulling in eight receptions for 173 yards – both career-highs - and two touchdowns. His 75-yard touchdown catch with 10:21 to go in the second quarter gave the AMCATS a 28-7 lead. For his efforts, Wallace was named Homecoming Game Offensive Most Valuable Player.
  • Anna Maria sophomore linebacker Sam Jakana (Coto De Caza, CA) was named Homecoming Game Defensive Most Valuable Player, after a day that saw him dominate the Bulldog offense. Jakana led the AMCATS with 11 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a pass breakup behind the line of scrimmage.
  • Anna Maria grad student wide receiver Hayden Braga (Foster, RI) finished with 131 receiving yards off seven catches and one touchdown, while junior wide receiver David Robinson (Boston, MA) caught four passes with two scores.
  • Anna Maria grad student defensive lineman Jude Sampson (Waterbury, CT) finished with seven tackles and 1.5 sacks.
  • Dean junior quarterback David Curry (Bethlehem, GA) led the Bulldogs with 290 yards passing on 21 of 35 passing with two touchdowns and 38 yards rushing.
  • Dean junior wide receiver Quintus Reid (New Haven, CT) caught 12 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns.


EASTERN COLLEGIATE FOOTBALL CONFERENCE:

Anna Maria is number one in the ECFC standings, the sole unbeaten team in conference play.   

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be back on the field next Saturday when they travel to Castleton University for a 2:00 p.m. game.
