Baseball Battles Back Against Raiders

NASHUA, NH - On Tuesday, April 16th the Anna Maria College baseball team traveled to Nashua, NH to take on the Rivier University Raiders for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. the AMCATS won the game 13-8.

Rivier jumped on Anna Maria early as they struck for 5 in the 1st inning. Rivier Starter Anthony Morro kept the Cats offense gutless through 4 before the exploded for 8 runs in the 6th. Trailing 6-0, Anna Maria needed a spark, and that's just what they got from the bottom of their order. 3 walks and. Hit by pitch led to the Amcats 1st run, then Andrew Denison his a sac fly to make it 6-2. Tommy Sasso had the next big hit with a 2 runs single to make it 6-4. After Jarrod Marifiote walked to re-load the bases, Kosta Drosidis proved why he's the best player to ever wear the jersey, with a bases clearing, 2 out, 2 strike double to left center to put the cats in front 7-6. Jeremy Rosenberg then singled home Drosidis for a little insurance. A Tommy Sasso sac fly in the 8th extended the lead to 9-6. Riv would score 2 in the bottom of the 8th before Tyler Godin entered the game and left 2 men in scoring position to head to the 9th. Denison would reach on an error with the bases loaded to make it 10-8 before Tommy Sasso comes up huge again, this time with a 2 out, 3-run double down the left field line to add some much needed insurance and finish his big day at the plate. Godin struck out the side in the 9th to finish this one up and give the Amcats the come from behind victory.  

Sophomore Carlos Santos gave the Amcats a chance to win with his huge relief appearance, entering in the 2nd inning and throwing 4 innings of 1 run baseball to allow the bats to get going. Misael Guzman followed that up with 2.1 innings of 2 hit ball allowing 2 unearned runs before turning it over to Godin who punched out all 5 of his outs, slamming the door once again.

The AMCATS will be back in action on Wednesday, April 17th where they will head down the street to take on the Clark University Cougars for a non-conference matchup. Opening pitch is set for 3:00pm.
