PAXTON, MA: Freshman right-handed pitcher Nick Choate (Grafton, MA) of the Anna Maria College baseball team has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 1, 2022 in an announcement by the conference on Tuesday. Choate was also named GNAC Rookie of the Week for the same period.

Choate capped off his incredible rookie regular season with a complete game shutout win over GNAC rival Norwich on Friday, as he struck out 11 Cadets and allowed just two hits and two walks over seven innings. At press time, Choate was second in the conference in ERA and was leading the entire nation in fewest hits allowed per nine innings pitched, and ranked ninth in the NCAA in strikeouts per nine innings.

It is the third time this season Choate has been named GNAC Rookie of the Week, and the second time he has claimed Pitcher of the Week honors. All told, AMCATS have been recognized as the conference's top pitcher four times this year and have been honored as top first-year players an equal number of times.
