TURNING POINT:

  • Game one saw the AMCATS trailing 3-2 going into the bottom of the fourth inning when senior right-fielder pitcher Jason Shell (Sandwich, MA) tripled to drive in junior second baseman Seref Mcdowell (Wareham, MA) and tie the game. The very next at-bat, Drosidis singled in Shell to give Anna Maria a lead they would never relinquish.
  • In game two, it was again Drosidis coming up with the biggest hits. Clinging to a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth, the 2021 GNAC Player of the Year doubled to left field to drive in two runs, giving the AMCATS the breathing room to pull out another win.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Shell put on a show in game one, with four hits including two triples and a double while driving in four runs.
  • Mcdowell had the best day of his career, tallying four hits and scoring four runs with two runs batted in.
  • Drosidis posted four hits on the day with a double, a triple, four RBI, and three runs scored himself.
  • Anna Maria junior left-fielder James Powers (Folsom, CA) was a frequent base-runner, tallying four hits and two walks.
  • Anna Maria freshman left-handed pitcher Michael Shorey (Northbridge, MA) ran his career record to a perfect 5-0 by going the distance in game two, allowing just one earned run over seven innings.
  • Anna Maria senior right-handed pitcher Jack Marzec (Northbridge, MA), already the school's all-time leader in career strikeouts – got the win in game one, striking out four in two innings. Senior left-handed pitcher Marc LeBlanc (Northbridge, MA) picked up his first career save.
  • With the two victories, the AMCATS have reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since 2012, and need just one win to tie the school record. Anna Maria remains in contention for the number two seed in the upcoming GNAC Championship Tournament.
