MARLBOROUGH, MA: The Anna Maria College baseball team dominated both ends of their Sunday double-header against Rivier University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at MHS Bauks Field in Marlborough, winning game one, 13-0, before freshman starting pitcher Nick Choate (Grafton, MA) and sophomore relief pitcher Jake Usenia (Uxbridge, MA) combined to throw a seven-inning perfect game two, allowing no base runners by the Raiders.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The opener saw senior right-handed pitcher Jack Marzec (Northbridge, MA) – already the AMCATS' all-time leader in career strikeouts – going the distance with seven shutout innings, striking out nine Raiders in his best outing of the season.  
  • In game two, Choate was given the ball and went five innings without allowing a base-runner and striking out five. Dating back to March 27, Choate has pitched a combined ten straight shutout innings over three games. Usenia entered the game in relief and continued to shutdown Rivier, striking out two in two innings. It was the first recorded perfect game in school history.
  • Anna Maria senior shortstop Kosta Drosidis (Holden, MA), the reigning GNAC Player of the Year, had himself a day at the plate, tallying five hits, a home run, a double, and five runs batted in.
  • Anna Maria junior left-fielder James Powers (Folsom, CA) was a force, with six hits and five runs scored.
  • Anna Maria senior third baseman Nick Genatossio (Sutton, MA) also had five hits, driving in three runs.
  • Anna Maria junior centerfielder Hunter Dunithan (Reno, NV) set the school single-season record in stolen bases, finishing the day with 21 to pass former AMCAT standout Joseph Fahey. Dunithan finished the day with three hits and four RBI.
  • Anna Maria junior designated hitter Elijah Spataj (Cheshire, CT) continued his stellar play of late, with four hits, two doubles and three runs driven in.

Anna Maria will be back on the field on Monday when they travel to Elms College for a 3:00 p.m. double-header.
