DAVENPORT, FL: The Anna Maria College baseball team lost 13-5 to Loras College on Thursday morning at the RussMatt Invitational in Davenport, Florida. The Duhawks of Loras are considered one of the top teams in the nation, receiving votes in the latest d3baseball.com poll.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Thursday, March 10, 2022
  • Score: Loras 13, Anna Maria 5
  • Records: Duhawks of Loras 9-0 | AMCATS of Anna Maria 4-3

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Down 3-0 after the first inning, the AMCATS rallied in the bottom of the second, as freshman first baseman pitcher Jeremy Rosenberg (Boynton Beach, FL) scored from third during a double-play, putting Anna Maria on the board. The very next at bat, junior designated hitter Elijah Spataj (Cheshire, CT) singled to drive in senior third baseman pitcher Nick Genatossio (Sutton, MA) to pull the AMCATS to within two.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Anna Maria pulled to within one when sophomore infielder Luke Halunen (Carver, MA) came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out and drove in his first run of the year off a single to left field to plate Genatossio once again, and the score now 4-3. It was the first multi-hit game of Halunen's career.
  • Down 10-3 in the bottom of the fifth, Genatossio would again attempt to get the AMCATS going as he hit an RBI groundout to bring home senior shortstop Kosta Drosidis (Holden, MA).
  • In the bottom of the eighth, senior right fielder Jason Shell (Sandwich, MA) launched his first home run of the season over the right field fence on a solo shot.
  • Anna Maria senior right-handed pitcher Joe Gemelli (Grafton, MA) pitched two and a third shutout innings in relief for the AMCATS, while senior left-handed pitcher Marc LeBlanc (Northbridge, MA) closed it out with one and one third innings of shutout ball.
