Drosidis' Walk-Off Double Propels Baseball Over Terriers, 15-14

Davenport, FL: Senior shortstop Kosta Drosidis (Holden, MA) doubled home James Powers (Folsom, CA) as the Anna Maria College baseball team walked off against the Thomas College Terriers today at the RussMatt Invitational.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Tuesday, March 8, 2022
  • Score: Thomas (ME) 14, Anna Maria 15
  • Records: Terriers of Thomas College 0-5 | AMCATS of Anna Maria 3-2

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Graduate student right fielder Jason Shell (Sandwich, MA) led off the ninth with a double into the left centerfield gap to run Terriers reliever Jonathan Martin. Powers then welcomed the Terriers side arming reliever Angelo Moutafis into the game with a single back up the middle that went off the leg of the shortstop in to center field, allowing Shell to come around to score. Drosidis, the reigning GNAC player of the year, then brought the game to a close, driving a 1-1 pitch into the right center field gap, scoring Powers all the way from first base.
  • The AMCATS scored a season high eight runs in the seventh inning that was highlighted by a bases clearing three-run triple by freshman first baseman Jeremy Rosenberg (Boynton Beach, FL).
  • Senior reliever Joe Gemelli (Grafton, MA) was credited for the win, after getting the final out in the top of the ninth, quelling a seven-run rally by the Terriers and stranding runners at first and third.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Drosidis was 4-4 with two walks, two runs scored and three runs batted in
  • Junior center fielder Hunter Dunithan (Reno, NV) drove in three while going 3-4, including a two- run homerun in the fourth.

  • Graduate third basemen Nick Genatossio (Sutton, MA) added two RBIs on a double in the fifth and a groundout that capped the scoring in the eight run seventh inning. With that hit, Genatossio became the latest AMCAT to reach the 100 career hit plateau.
