Fitchburg, Mass. – The Anna Maria Women's Volleyball team was defeated by the Falcons of Fitchburg State, 3-0 in non-conference action this evening from the Parkinson Gymnasium.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 3, Anna Maria 0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-11)

Records: Fitchburg State (3-6) | Anna Maria (1-5)

How It Happened

Fitchburg State took a 10-6 advantage on a service ace from senior Emily Beauvais (Greenfield, N.H.) before Anna Maria cut the deficit to 10-9 on a block by freshman Ryann Hassett (North Oxford, Mass.). The Falcons secured the first set though on a pair of kills from Beauvais and a block from Beauvais and junior Paige Anderson (Winchendon, Mass.), resulting in the 25-13 final.

In the second set, the Falcons grabbed a 6-2 edge to start the set, but the AMCATS answered back with a block from senior Hannah Mitchell (Pittsfield, Mass.) to make the score 12-8. Anna Maria would cut the lead to 20-17 on a Mitchell kill, but Fitchburg State secured the middle set as junior Lauren Riccard (Tewksbury, Mass.) and senior Kathryn Newcomb (Portsmouth, R.I.) connected on a block, while junior Amy Coelho (Bellingham, Mass.) added a service ace for the 25-17 win.

Fitchburg State took a 7-0 edge on a trio of kills by Anderson before Anna Maria responded with a point from freshman Ashley Sheehan (Medford, Mass.), but the Falcons capped the scoring with back-to-back service aces from sophomore Meredith Taylor (Reading, Mass.), resulting in the 25-11 final set triumph.
