AMCATS Fall in Hoops for Hounds Tournament, 76-44

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Anna Maria was led by four players with eight points – Trafficia Warburton (Worcester, Mass.), Taylor Walker (Winchendon, Mass.), Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, Mass.) and Christina Gauvin (Dudley, Mass.) but the AMCATS fell to Lycoming College 76-44 in the opening round of the eighth Hoops for Hounds Tournament at Dutch Burch Court at Lamade Gym.

Pryor also added seven rebounds and four assists for the AMCATS, while Warburton had five caroms, two steals and a block.

The Warriors (5-3 overall) won their fourth straight game in convincing fashion, as the 76 points were the most since the team scored 89 against Penn College on Nov. 16, 2010 and the 32-point margin of victory was also the largest since the 43 point win in that game.

With the win, Lycoming advances to the championship game of the Hoops for Hounds Tournament for the fifth time. It will look for its third title and first since 2009 when it faces Susquehanna (3-4 overall), who beat Richard Stockton (2-6 overall), 66-61, in the other first round game, at 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, at Lamade Gym. Anna Maria (5-6 overall) will face Richard Stockton in the consolation game at 1 p.m.
The Warriors were led by 14 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists by senior Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford). Junior Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) added a career-high tying 13 points, hitting a career-best three 3-pointers, and three steals and junior Ali Derr (New Columbia, Pa./Milton Area) added 12 points, a career-high four assists and two steals. Sophomore Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) also finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, both one shy of her career highs.
Lycoming trailed just once in the game, at 4-2 with 17:50 left, before Lycoming reeled off seven straight points, with sophomore Olivia Manges (York, Pa./West York) highlighting the run with a transition trey. The AMCATS kept close by for much of the first 11 minutes before a 3-pointer from Ziminski ignited Lycoming on a 22-6 run that ended the half. Ziminski scored 10 points during the run and Antonelli added six, as Lycoming went into the break shooting 50 percent (15-of-30) from the floor and with a 41-23 lead.
In the second half, the AMCATS couldn't get closer than 16 points and a run of 10 straight points helped give Lycoming a 64-33 lead with 6:38 left, helping ice away the game.
Lycoming dominated the specialty points, notching 36 points off 25 AMCAT turnovers while giving up just 16 on 20 turnovers. The Warriors also posted a 12-4 advantage on second-chance points thanks to a 44-28 advantage on the glass. Lycoming also posted a 28-20 advantage in the paint.
