Women’s Basketball Upended by Visiting Trinity, 79-46

Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria College women's basketball team suffered a 79-46 defeat to visiting Trinity College in non-conference action at Fuller Activities Center on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Bantams improve to 3-4 on the year while the AMCATS fell to 3-4.

Anna Maria was led by junior Trafficia Warburton (Worcester, Mass.) with 17 points, nine rebounds and a steal. Senior Taylor Walker (Winchendon, Mass.) pitched in with six points and nine rebounds while teammate Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, Mass.) tacked on six points, one rebound and a steal.

Senior Taylor Murtaugh (New York, NY) poured in a game-high 35 points and hauled in a team-high nine rebounds and added a trio of assists and steals for the Bantams.

The Bantams would open up a nine point first half advantage 15-6, and never trail in the game, courtesy of a pair of jumpers by Murtaugh and junior Hanna Brickley with 12:23 left in the stanza. Next, Pryor would hit a three-pointer from the corner and freshman Deja Taitt would add a fast break layup to cut the deficit to 15-11 with 8:27 on the clock. The teams would trade baskets down the stretch as Warburton would finish the first stanza with a jumper to leave AMC down five, 29-24 heading into the locker room.

Trinity opened up the second half with three straight free-throws while Anna Maria would answer with a Lindsay Bond (Webster, Mass.) triple from behind the arc to keep the margin 32-27. However the guests lead ballooned to double-digits with just under 13 minutes remaining and the AMCATS couldn't recover. The Bantams would outscore the AMCATS 40-17 to close out the win.

The Bantams would outshoot the AMCATS (47%-26%) and hold the turnover advantage (24-13) while Anna Maria held a slight edge in rebounds (40-39),

Anna Maria returns to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Wheelock College for a 7:00pm tip-off against the Wildcats.
