Game 1 Pioneers 4, AMCATS 0

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Pioneers quickly struck first after two RBI singles from Krista Lovell (Addison, NY) and Danayah Diaz (Endicott, NY) for the early 2-0 lead. Hailey Shaw (Salem, NH) notched a single in the bottom half of the inning and also reached second on a throwing error by the Alfred State shortstop. However, the AMCATS could not push Shaw across as Pioneers pitcher, Arianna Traugott (Elmira, NY) retired the next three hitters.
  • For the next three innings, the contest turned into a pitchers duel as 'CATS starter, Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA) shut down Alfred State hitters and got herself out of a third-inning jam that had runners on first and third but induced a fly out to end the threat. Later in the fifth inning though, Alfred State sent across two more runs via RBIs by Diaz and Lovell for the 4-0 advantage.
  • Heading into the bottom of the seventh with one out, Anna Maria threatened from a double to deep left off the bat of Kassandra Register (Bakersfield, CA). After a groundout by Elisabeth Borneman (Townsend, MA), Register advanced to third with two outs. Unfortunately, Traugott forced Shaw to ground to short for the Pioneers 4-0 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Despite the loss, Liston had a solid outing for Anna Maria in seven innings of work with one strikeout on three earned runs.
  • Although the AMCATS lost, the team was slightly outhit by the Pioneers by an 8-6 margin.
  • Register and Kaitlyn Snyder (Cromwell, CT) paced the squad with two hits on the day. Meanwhile, Kyleigh Campbell (Merrimac, NH) and Shaw each collected one hit.
  • Traugott earned the start for Alfred State and went seven innings while striking out four.
  • Diaz and Lovell were the only sources of runs for the Pioneers as they provided two RBI's respectively.

Game 2 Tigers 6, AMCATS 3

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • RIT took an early 4-0 lead after two innings highlighted by an RBI double through the left side by Alexis Smith (Ronkonkoma, NY) in the first inning, and a two-run RBI single via Hailey Czerwinski (East Amherst, NY) in the second inning. In the third inning, Kassandra Register (Bakersfield, CA) hit a single and got herself to third in the inning, but Tigers starter, Rachel Jowers (Whigham, GA) struck out the next AMCATS batter to preserve the shutout.
  • After RIT tacked on one more run in the sixth (5-0), the squad responded with a three-run inning to cut the Tigers lead down to two (5-3). Anna Maria quickly loaded the bases as the first three batters got on base that featured a Kaitlyn Snyder (Cromwell, CT) single. Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA) brought in the first AMCATS run after she was hit by a pitch and after Maria Scandalito (Pomfret, CT) hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another run, Kendall McNamee (Somers, CT) scored on a past ball.
  • The Tigers got a run back in the seventh inning after a Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA) RBI single for a 6-3 RIT lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Elisabeth Borneman (Townsend, MA) drew a walk and Hailey Shaw (Salem, NH) ripped a single back to the pitcher to give the team a runner in scoring position with one out. However, the squad could not push the runners across after Jowers collected the last two outs in the RIT 6-3 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Two different AMCATS each notched RBI's in today's contest (Liston and Scandalito). Meanwhile, four different Anna Maria student-athletes each collected one hit (Register, Scandalito, Shaw, and Snyder).
  • Snyder earned the start for game two and had a strong outing despite the loss. In her seven innings of work, Snyder struck out two while giving up three earned runs.
  • In Jowers' first collegiate start, she threw seven innings and struck out six.
  • Samm Carroll (Woodbridge, NJ) and Czerwinski each had two RBIs for the Tigers in Wednesday's action.
