Anna Maria Falls In Opening Doubleheader With Clark and Albion
Ft. Myers, FL - Anna Maria opened up their season with a double-header against Clark University and Albion College, but unfortunately could not come away with wins in their games as they dropped their first game to Clark, 9-1 and the second against Albion College, 13-4 at the CenturyLink Sports Complex.

Game 1: Cougars 9, AMCATS 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Clark wasted no time as the Cougars posted a four-run first inning highlighted by a Samantha Restrepo-Stier (Davie, FL) two-out double through the left side which at that point made it 3-0, Clark. In the second inning, Clark tacked on two more runs and pushed their lead to 6-0.
- However, Anna Maria would finally get on the board in the third inning when Michelle Cilley (Dracut, MA) ripped a triple to right field and would go on to steal home to cut the Cougars lead to five (5-1).
- For the rest of the game, the Cougars added three more runs to push their lead up to 9-1 which featured a home run by Christina Kopacz (North Grosvenordale, CT).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Hailey Shaw (Salem, NH) paced the AMCATS offense with two hits on the day.
- Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA) drew the start for Anna Maria and wen two innings while giving up six runs.
- For Clark, Sarah Woods (Littleton, MA) got the start and pitched all five innings while striking out six.
Game 2: Britons 13, AMCATS 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Albion took a quick 2-0 lead in the first but Anna Maria roared back with a four-run first inning. Hailey Shaw (Salem, NH) had the rally going when she singled up the left side and brought in the squad's first run to cut it to 2-1. Kendall McNamee (Somers, CT) followed Shaw right up with a single of her own that brought in another AMCATS run and evened the contest at two.
- Kaitlyn Snyder (Cromwell, CT) then powered a double to right field and gave the squad a 4-2 lead after one inning. However, the Britons utilized a 10 run third inning to ultimately pull away (13-4) that featured a Lilly Patillo (Northglenn, CO) triple that scored two and made it 9-4.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Three different AMCATS student-athletes each had one hit on the afternoon (Shaw, McNamee, and Snyder).
- Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA) had the start for game two and lasted 2.2 innings and struck out three.
- For Albion, Ashley Pion (Edwardsburg, MI) pitched a complete game and struck out 11.
WHAT'S NEXT
Anna Maria has another double-header tomorrow against Elms College and SUNY Delhi at 9 AM and 11 AM respectively. Albion has some time off before they travel to Defiance College on Saturday, March 21 at 1 PM.
