Carreira, Falco, and Sholds Named as 2019 Anna Maria Softball Captains

Paxton, Mass: This week, head softball coach Larry Sasso and his staff announced this Spring's team captains.

The AMCAT Softball team will be led by seniors, Sabrina Carreira (W. Hartford, CT), Victoria Falco (Marlborough, MA) and sophomore, Allison Sholds (Methuen, MA).

"Our coaching staff is extremely happy to have these three leaders as our captains for this season.  They exemplify what we stand for; industrious in the classroom and on the field, love the game of softball, and genuinely care for each player on this team. I'm very proud of this team and especially these captains for the way they represented our school and the program last year. I look forward to an exciting 2019 season with them modeling the way!" Coach Sasso said.

"Effective leaders influence others to achieve a common goal. What's impressive about these three captains is their desire to do better and to help others to get better as well.  They demonstrated leadership to serve the community, Anna Maria College, and their teammates.  They have good character, respect, humble, and attract the same type of individuals to this team. Win or lose these three captains will lead the way in a professional manner."  Coach Sasso said.

Sabrina Carreira (Sabby) will be playing in her fourth season for this team this year. She loves the game like no one else and can play just about every position on the field.  Sabby will primarily play shortstop and the corners of the infield. She will be batting at the top of the order.  Sabrina is a tremendous fielder and excellent hitter; last year she led the team with the highest batting average.  We expect to see some major production from Sabby this year with the bat.

Victoria Falco (Falco) will also be playing her fourth season for this team this year. Falco looks to be our starting pitcher this year when we open in March down in North Myrtle Beach, SC. "Falco is any coach's best friend, she will take the ball at any moment against any team and pitch her heart out!" Says Coach Sasso.  Falco has proven that she too can play any position on the field and will be batting in the top of the order.  Falco has a great glove and lots of range; she hits for power and we expect great things for her this year.

Allison Sholds (Allie) is only in her second year on the team.  After a shortened 2017 season due to injury we are extremely excited to have her back on the field with us. During our spring training season in Ft. Myers last year Allie hit a long-towering home run to left-center field and we look for her to bring that power hitting back in 2019.  Allie will be at third and first base and has demonstrated a great glove on the field as well.

The Anna Maria College Softball team will be opening their season on March 3, 2019 in North Myrtle Beach, SC.  The AMCATS will play eight of their 40 games in Myrtle Beach. The AMCATS will play their home opener on Thursday, March 21st against Fitchburg State University.
