Men's Lacrosse Claws Past Mitchell

PAXTON, Mass: 15-14 was the final from AMCAT Field this evening with the Anna Maria Men's Lacrosse Team taking down Mitchell college in a tightly contested match of non-conference Lacrosse action.

First Quarter

The Mariners were able to strike first in a very evenly played first quarter between the two teams. The first goal came just under two minutes in, when Jade Shields put one home off of a crisp pass from teammate Brandon Snyder to go up 1-0. The AMCATS would quickly respond with their own on a Ryan Morley (Hamden, CT) score from Nick Massaro (West Haven, CT).

The Quarter would continue with both teams trading goals, until the last four minutes when Anna Maria scored three consecutive goals to go up 5-3. Morley had three goals alone in the first, with Shields from Mitchell getting two.

Second Quarter

There were only three goals, starting off with the AMCATS Morley gaining his fourth. Mitchell responded after the three-point deficit with two goals of their own to end the second. Brandon Snyder and Kyle Marsh were the beneficiaries of those scores, marking Marsh's second of the game and making it a one-point contest going into the half at 6-5.

Third Quarter

Ten goals were scored in the third be two team with seven coming from Anna Maria. The 'CATS were able to build a five goal cushion with Ryan Rockwal (Chicopee, Mass.) and Brandon Pavoni (Granby, Mass.) both connecting for two apiece.

Shield was able to put his last two goals in giving him a total of four in this evening contest bringing the game to an 8-13 AMC lead.

Fourth Quarter

Mitchell did not shy away after being down five going into the fourth. They outscored the AMCATS 6-2 when everything was all set and done in the quarter. Kyle Marsh helped his team go on a four goal run with two shots of his hitting the back of the net totaling four scores for him throughout the contest.

The Mariners tied it up at 14 all with just 2:26 left to play. After a good save by the Mariners goalie Mitchell made a costly turnover on a clear attempt with it ending up in Pavoni's stick. Brandon was able to make a couple defenders miss and beat the tender low and to the right to get the final and go ahead goal with 46 seconds left. Anna Maria was able to hold off Mitchells offense to take it 15-14.

Goalies

Marcel Quinlan (L, 0-2) had a 20 save day in net, while allowing 15 goals.

Gage Garcia (Newington, Mass.) (W, 2-0) had 9 saves and allowed 14 goals.

The AMCATS will be back on the field the 2^nd of March as they will travel to Nichols college for a 1:00 PM start.
