Men's Lacrosse Takes Down Hawks

PAXTON, Mass. – The Anna Maria Men's Lacrosse team defeated Becker College in their home opener by a score of 29-3 in a Saturday afternoon non-conference match.

THE GAME

  • Anna Maria burst out with eight consecutive goals led by Eric Glover (Baldwinville, Mass.) who had three in the run.  Becker's Jack Schneider (Morrisville, Vt.) put the Hawks on the board with 4:11 to go in the first quarter with an unassisted goal.  Anna Maria's Quinn Hannagan (South Windsor, Conn.) and Nick Massaro (West Haven, Conn.) put two more on the board for the AMCATS in the first.  The AMCATS led 10-1 heading into the second.
  • Anna Maria continued to increase their lead in the second as they put four more up before Becker saw its second goal of the game midway through the second quarter when Matthew Guerin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored on a helper from Schneider.  Anna Maria's Ryan Morley (Hamden, Conn.) and Brandon Pavoni (Granby, Mass.) led the AMCATS on a 6-0 run to set the halftime score at 20-22.
  • Anna Maria held off the Hawks in the third and fourth quarters.  The AMCATS scored six in the third and three in the final quarter, while Becker's Schneider scored his second of the day in the third. The final score stood at 29-3.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The AMCATS outshot the Hawks, 63-27.
  • AMCATS' Pavoni and Morley each had five goals apiece.  Pavoni and Massaro logged five assists, while Morely posted a game-high six. 
  • Glover, Hannagan, and Tim Harrington (Chicopee, Mass.) each had three goals apiece for Anna Maria.
  • Becker's Schneider scored two and assisted the other goal of the game.
  • Pavoni was Anna Maria's ground ball leader with six, while Lewis Jaworski (Cambridge, Mass.) led the Hawks with a team-high four.  The AMCATS held a 46-22 edge in that category.
  • Anna Maria's Gage Garcia (Newington, Conn.) earned the win in net, stopping 6-of-8 shots on net.  Griffin Moore (Worcester, Mass.) played the second half and made three saves.
  • Daniel Whittenburg (Eastford, Conn.) was tabbed the loss in his goalkeeping debut.  

 

GAME NOTES

Becker is 6-6 all-time against Anna Maria.  The last meeting between the two teams was in 2017 when the Hawks defeated the AMCATS 11-3.

 

UP NEXT
Anna Maria is home again on Monday (Feb. 25) and will entertain Wentworth in a 5 p.m. tilt.  The Hawks will head to Regis on Wednesday (Feb. 27) for a 4 p.m. match before opening at home on Saturday (Mar. 2) against Maine Maritime.
