Men's Hockey Ties with Westfield

WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Westfield State freshman defenseman Josh
Boulos tied the game with 4.4 to complete a furious comeback by the Owls, as Westfield State and Anna Maria skated to a 4-4 tie in a non-conference ice hockey game at Amelia Park Ice Arena on Tuesday night.

The Amcats led 4-2 after an empty net goal by Connor McIntosh with 47 seconds left in regulation time.

The Owls (3-2-2) pulled goalkeeper Thierry Messervier, and got a goal from Pearce Vance with 19.2 second left in regulation to give Westfield a chance.

With Messervier still out, FX Girard fired a centering pass from the right half-boards, and it deflected off the skate of Daniel Backstrom to Boulos pinching down from the blueline, where he rang a shot from the right side of the slot off the pipe and in to force the extra session

Neither team was able to muster much momentum in the extra period to end with a 4-4 tie.

Messervier finished with 32 saves for the Owls, while Patrick McGuane stopped 26 shots for Anna Maria (1-3-2).
