Field Hockey Victorious in Double OT Thriller with Falcons

 

PAXTON, Mass:  Anna Maria Women's Field Hockey won a double overtime non-conference match against Fitchburg State 2-1 on AMCAT Field Thursday evening.

 

Fitchburg State University (7-6, 4-3 LEC), Anna Maria College (5-6, 1-2 GNAC)

 

First Half:

 

The Flacons would get the scoring started in the 12th minute of the game when Molly Richard shot point blank that was saved by Cassandra Micklesavage (Pottstown, PA), to then be put back in by Nicole Tocco.

 

Later, the AMCATS would then find the net and score with 40 seconds left.  Anne Melanson (Grafton, Mass) would grab a loose ball and take it into the circle and put it home. 

 

Second Half:

 

Fitchburg State and Anna Maria would both have a couple quality looks on goal in the second half, however neither team would be able to capitalize. 

 

Overtime:

 

Fitchburg State would pull their goalie to use a kicking back in the first overtime. Which worked in the at first, but would eventually cost them the game.  

 

Double Overtime:

 

AMCATS would score five minutes into the second overtime on a corner pass from Abigayle Celata (Baldwinville, Mass) to Chayna Bingham-Hendricks (Mashpee, Mass) who fired a one timer for the game winning goal.

Fitchburg State: Kaelie Hosley : 1 Goals Allowed, 3 Saves, (0-0)

 

Aislinn DeHorsey: 1 Goal Allowed, 1 Save, (0-1)

 

Anna Maria: Cassandra Micklesavage (Potsstown, Penn) 1 Goals Allowed, 4 Saves, (1-0)

 

Next UP:

 

Fitchburg State will be home on October 13th as they host Eastern Conn. State at 11AM.

 

Anna Maria will travel to Regis College on October 13th for a conference match up with action starting at 12:00 PM.
