AMCATS Lose Conference Opener to Monks

PAXTON, Mass – Saturday afternoon, the AMCATS Field hockey team opened their Great Northeast Athletic Conference campaign against two-time reigning conference champion St. Joe's College of Maine. The AMCATS defense and excellent goalie play kept the game close throughout the first half. In the end, the Monks found the back of the cage five times to take a 5-0 victory.

The AMCATS had five shots in the game, three of which were on net. Midfielder Chayna Bingham-Hendricks (Mashpee, Mass) has three shots in the game, two on target. Goalie Nikki Street (San Jose, Calif) made 16 saves in the contest, allowing four goals for an .800 save percentage in the game.

St. Joe's rattled off 38 shots in the game with 27 on target. Five different Monks found the back of the cage, the first of which came from Kayla Veilleux in the 5th minute. Goalie Megan Baker face three shots and saved all of them behind her defense.

The early goal by the Monks set the tone though both team's defenses played well for all 70 minutes. The second goal came on a penalty stroke in the 62nd minute from Arianna Kahler which started a nine-minute goal scoring streak for St. Joe's leading to their 5-0 victory.

The AMCATS are on the road against Clark University on Tuesday, September 11th at 7pm.
