FIELD HOCKEY: Anna Maria falls to local rival WPI

- The Lead: Freshman Julia Vanderstreet (West Bridgewater, MA) scored two of WPI's five second half goals in a 6-0 victory over visiting Anna Maria Thursday afternoon in a non-conference field hockey match in Alumni Stadium. Sophomore Carlee Irish (Saratoga Springs, NY) scored the first half game-winner for the Engineers.

How It Happened:

-Vanderstreet notched her first two collegiate goals 10:18 apart beginning with an unassisted goal at 58:31. She later had help from Irish for the final tally of the game at 69:09. Earlier in the game, Irish notched her first collegiate goal with less than two minutes to go until the break as she tipped a shot from senior Izzy Garver (Owls Head, ME).

-Senior Sabrina Guzzi (Suffield, CT) made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 47:24 and classmate Amanda Richards (Wilmington, MA) quickly added another with help from freshman Kaitlyn Hess (Milford, NH) at 49:15. Sophomore Shannon Hynes (Auburn, MA) gave the Engineers the 4-0 advantage at 53:18.

Inside the Numbers

- Junior Karen Mushrall (Mariaville, ME) stopped two shots in the first 53:15 while sophomore Emily Wilson (Malvern, PA) made a pair of saves in the final 16:45.

-Anna Maria junior Danielle Huston (Spencer, MA) made a contest-high six stops and senior Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, MA), who accounted for three of the AMCATS four shots on-goal, was credited with a defensive save.

-WPI had the advantages in shots (22-6), shots on-goal (13-4) and penalty corners (14-2).

Up Next

The AMCATS play their final regular season game Saturday, Oct. 21, at Saint Joseph's College (Maine) with a key Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up at 2:00 p.m.

-The Engineers head to No. 3 Babson Saturday for a noon start.
