How It Happened:

-Despite a total of eight goals being scored in the game, the first half saw very little scoring.

-The Lyons were granted a penalty stroke with just ten minutes off the clock and it was Kelsey Buckley who went to the line for the home team. Buckley found room beind Anna Maria goalkeeper, Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.) to give the home team the 1-0 advantage.

-Following the goal, the Lyons took eight more shots in the first half. The AMCATS only managed to get two shots off in the first half and played a lot of defense to hold Wheaton to a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

-The Lyons did not take long to heat things up in the second half. With just five minutes off the clock Katie Peters scored her third goal of te season to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

-Wheaton went on to score three back to back goals from JoAnn Bourgoin, Michelle Connolly and Buckley (5-0).

-First year forward Hannah LeClair tacked on a sixth Wheaton goal just two minutes later after getting a stick on a ball from senior midfielder Hannah Southard.

-Sarah Yates capped the Lyons' attack after two attempts on the goalie's pads, lifting the lead to 7-0 with her first goal of the season.

-Prior to Yates' goal, Taryn Rebelo (New Bedford, Mass.) stepped in to buy the AMCATS more time with her first defensive save of the year.

-Anna Maria did not waste a last-minute attempt to score, however, and were ultimately able to convert on a penalty corner. Allyson Shaw (Holden, Mass.) notched her second collegiate goal following a pass from Anne Melanson (Grafton, Mass.) with :45 left in regulation.

Behind The Numbers:

-The Lyons outshot the AMCATS 22-7 and held a 9-7 advantage in penalty corners.

-Morgan Karnes picks up a win after making the start for the Lyons, but was unchallenged by the AMCATS in just under 58 minutes of work. Gretta Reilly made an appearance as well, picking up a save in the final 12.5 minutes.
