Field Hockey Drops Home Opener with Clark, 6-1

THE BASICS:

- Score: Clark University 6, Anna Maria College 1

- Records: Anna Maria College (0-1); Clark University (1-0)

- Location: Paxton, Mass. (AMCAT Field)

- The Lead: The Anna Maria College field hockey team fell to the Cougars of Clark University by a final score of 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. Freshman forward, Chase Collier (Lisbon, Maine) lifted the Cougars to victory with two goals on the day. The loss drops the AMCATS to 0-1 on the season while the Cougars kick off their season with a 1-0 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-Clark notched four unanswered first half goals to head into the halftime break with a comfortable lead.

-The Cougars opened up scoring in the seventh minute of play  as sophomore forward, Mikayla Pantano (East Bridgewater, Mass.) found her way through a group of AMCAT defenders and put the ball past AMCAT goalie, Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.).

-The two teams battled it out in the midfield for the next 10 minutes before Collier tallied her first goal of the day off of a pass from freshman midfielder, Cheyanne Zappala (Laconia, N.H.).

-The Cougars were awarded a penalty corner and transitioned that into another goal with 15 minutes to play in the first half. Zappala was the ball feeder again just two minutes later as she found Rai Bittues (Center Ossipee, N.H.) in the circle for the goal (3-0)

-The Cougars were not done scoring and continued to pepper Tobin with shots. Junior, Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, M.D.) collected a rebound off of Tobin's pads and finished at the back of the net to give the visitors the 4-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

-Anna Maria got on the board first in the second half with an early goal from senior Nicole Denver (Springfield, Mass.) that was assisted by freshman Chayna Bingham-Hendricks (Mashpee, Mass.) (4-1).

-That would be the only goal for the AMCATS and the visitors saw a second goal from Collier and a goal from senior forward, Liz Grady (Worcester, Mass.) to take the ultimate 6-1 victory.
