Baseball Sweeps Albertus Magnus with 34 Hit Day

- NEW HAVEN, CT: The Anna Maria baseball team swept GNAC opponent Albertus Magnus this afternoon in a pair of conference matchups. Game one saw a score of 18-10, while game two finished with a 14-8 score.  

 THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/24/2021

- Score: Anna Maria 18, Albertus 10 (GAME ONE), Anna Maria 14, Albertus 8 (GAME TWO)

- Records: Albertus (3-11, 2-10 GNAC), Anna Maria (15-8, 7-3 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Game one saw a high output of runs for both teams. The AMCATS had the advantage at the conclusion after racking up fifteen hits. Anna Maria had three big innings, the second, fourth, and sixth. The fourth was the biggest with six coming across for the visiting squad. The sixth was highlighted by a two-run homer by Kosta Drosidis (Holden, MA).

-  The home team put together an eight-run sixth to get the majority of their runs. The Falcons day was highlighted by a solo shot to right field by Justen Rodriquez.

-  Game two saw less in the run column but for the AMCATS they tallied nineteen hits against the Albertus pitching staff. This game saw two big innings for Anna Maria in the second and fifth. The second consisted of six runs with the fifth finishing with five. The second inning was highlighted with a two-RBI single from Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, MA). 

- Albertus had one big inning in game two and that was the fifth where they were able to put together five runs. The inning was highlighted with a Brandon Clark two-run home run to left field.  
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Game one top performers for the AMCATS were, Twitchell, Drosidis, Noah Holland (Sandwich, MA). Twitchell finished with 2 hits and 3 RBI's. Drosidis was 1-for-4 with the home run and 3 runs batted in. Holland was a solid 3-for-4 with 2 RBI's.

-  Twitchell was also award the win after completing 5 innings on the mound. He allowed just three hits and had 4 strikeouts.

-  Game two top performers were again Adam Twitchell, James Powers (Folsom, CA), Joseph Yannelli (Thorton, PA). Twitch was 3-for-5 with 5 RBI's. Powers finished with 3 hits and 2 RBI's. Yannelli was 2-for-4 with 2 runs batted in.   

- Liam Cunningham (Northbridge, MA) got the win for game two after pitching 4 innings, 2 hits, and four strikeouts.
UP NEXT:

- Anna Maria returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Brandies for a second contest this season. The first pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
