NEC Tops Baseball

NORTHBOROUGH, MASS: The Anna Maria College baseball team lost 7-4 to visiting New England College on Sunday afternoon at the Baseball Sports Complex in Northborough, Massachusetts.

 THE BASICS:

- Date: Sunday, March 21, 2021

- Score: NEC 7, Anna Maria 4

- Records: NEC (1-5), Anna Maria (6-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Senior Nick Genatossio (Sutton, MA) got the AMCATS on the board first in the first inning with a ground-ruled RBI double to give Anna Maria a 1-0 lead. Then in the bottom of the third, trailing 3-1, Genatossio continued to spark the offense by plating two more runs off a single to the right side to tie the game at 3-3. Genatossio now has six RBI in just the last two games.

-  Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth, senior Greg Gehring (Southold, NY) singled down the leftfield run to plate another run. But that would prove as close as the AMCATS would get.    

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Senior Noah Holland (Sandwich, MA) went two-for-four with a double and a run scored.                

-  Six Anna Maria pitchers totaled 13 strikeouts against N.E.C.

UP NEXT:

- Anna Maria returns to action on Thursday when they host Rhode Island College in a 3:00 p.m. game.
