Baseball Sweeps WPI to End Season

AUBURNDALE, FL: The Anna Maria baseball team ends their season on a high note this afternoon after taking down WPI in both games to complete the sweep.  

 THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/14/2020

Score: Anna Maria 3, WPI 0 (Game One), Anna Maria 19, WPI 7 (Game Two)

Records: WPI (4-6), Anna Maria (8-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME ONE

-  The AMCATS got the shutout victory after they were able to push across one run three innings in a row against the Engineers.

-  Both pitchers were performing at high levels to minimizes hits and runs but the WPI defense had a rough day behind their hurlers. For Engineers David Larson went all seven innings giving up just eight hits, with just two earned, and four strikeouts. AMCATS ace Jack Marzec (Northbridge, MA) shut down a good WPI offense t after throwing a complete game with just three hits allowed and tallied nine punch outs.

-  Noah Holland (Sandwich, MA), Jarrod Marifiote (Framingham, MA), and Greg Gehring (Southold, NY) all had two hits in game one. Holland and Marifiote were two for four while Gehring was a perfect two for two.

 HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME TWO

WPI was able to get on the board in game two when the AMCATS committed an error that allowed two Engineers to come across. They also pushed across another three piece in the fourth to gather a bulk of their runs.  

- Anna Maria scored a huge nine run inning in the fourth after the Engineers defense fell apart, causing all nine runs to be unearned. The AMCATS added on another six runs in the sixth with just one of those coming as earned after seven total errors in the field for the Engineers.  

-  Dario Tarquinio (Southbridge, MA) got the win after 2.1 innings, allowing just three hits, two earned, and five strikeouts.

Kosta Drosidis (Holden, MA) finished with the game high in RBI's after picking up four on two hits. Holland continued to rake with another two hits and three RBI's this afternoon in game two.
