Baseball Walks Off Against Pitt-Greensburg

AUBURNDALE, FL: The Anna Maria baseball team finished their nine inning game this morning with Pitt-Greensburg in walk off fashion after being down with just three outs to go.

 THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/11/2020

Score: Anna Maria 5, Pitt-Greensburg 4

Records: Pitt-G (1-7), Anna Maria (5-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Bobcats gained the upper hand early in the fourth inning after putting together a few hits to load the bases. Abram King picked up the first run batted in for his club, followed by the DH Will Thorp.

-  The Game remained at 2-0 in Pitts favor until the AMCATS were able to put together a string of hits of their own in the seventh inning to tie it up at 2-2. Noah Holland (Sandwich, MA) reached on an infield single to plate the 'CATS first run. The very next batter, Kosta Drosidis (Holden, MA) singled up the middle to plate the tying run.

-  Pitt wouldn't go away easily and put up another two runs their next time up to go back on top 4-2. Jordon Cavanaugh fought off an inside pitch and placed in into right field just deep enough to plate the go ahead run. Thorp added one more after punching one right back up the middle to give them one more insurance run.

- But Anna Maria wasn't going home winless today and fought their way back. The AMCATS picked up one of the two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a ground out RBI by Zac Genovezos (Fairhaven, MA). The 'CATS completed their rally in the bottom of the ninth after a leadoff double from Drosidis. He scored the tying run after getting moved over to third, to then get hit in on a sacrifice fly by Jarrod Marifiote (Framingham, MA). After a walk then fielder's choice Jason Shell (Sandwich, MA) stepped into the box looking for his third hit of the day and end the game in the ninth. He did just that, with the infield in Shell sent a line drive right into center field to score the winning run and clinch the game for the AMCATS.
