Baseball Sweeps Rivier on Senior Day

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Baseball Team took two conference games from Rivier University this afternoon at NEBC with scores of 4-1 and 6-2.

 

Records: Rivier 7-29, 1-13 GNAC. AMC 14-22, 5-9 GNAC.

 

The Raiders lone run came on a bases loaded walk by David Pappalardo in the top of the sixth. Tyler Jackson was the best hitter in the lineup this afternoon as he went 3-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored.

 

The AMCATS were led by Jason Shell (Sandwich, Mass.) who came up big with a two run single in the sixth to push the lead to three. Kosta Drosidis (Holden, Mass.) had the only extra base hit for the 'CATS with a RBI triple.

 

Pitching

 

Jack Marzec (Northbridge, Mass.) got the win putting him at 3-2 on the season after six innings with no earned, six hits allowed, and seven strikeouts.

 

Liam Cunningham (Northbridge, Mass.) came in to get the save his fifth on the year tying him for most saves in a single season.  

 

Corey Cochran was tagged with the loss dropping him to 2-4 after six innings of work where he let up ten hits and three earned runs.

 

Game Two

 

The Raiders biggest inning was the sixth again where they hit back to back homeruns with Jorge Martinez and Alex Divito. Martinez also tallied the most hits for the team with two.

 

Greg Gehring knocked in two for the AMCATS one of his two singles, putting him at 2-for-3 in game two. Drosidis and Shell were perfect at the plate, with Drosidis going 3-for-3 and Shell 2-for-2. Both were able to pick up an RBI, putting Shell at three for the day and Drosidis at two.

 

Pitching

 

Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass.) will get the win putting him at 2-4 on the campaign, he pitched five and two thirds with six hits allowed and just two earned runs.

 

Ryan Schaefer will suffer the loss dropping him to 1-5 after four innings with eleven hits and three earned runs.

 

Up Next

 

Anna Maria will be back this Tuesday at NEBC to take on MCLA in a one nine inning contest with first pitch coming at 3:00 PM.
