Baseball Drops a Pair of Games to JWU

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Baseball Team dropped a pair of games to conference opponent Johnson & Wales with scores of 4-3 in eleven innings and 8-2 in Providence Rhode Island.

 

Records: JWU 14-4, 6-0 GNAC. Anna Maria 8-15, 1-5 GNAC.

 

The Wildcats were able to manufacture all four runs off of ten walks and eight hits. Joe Maracic went 1-for-5 with a run score and an RBI. Aiden Hagarty batted in another run while going 2-for-3.

 

The AMCATS put up all three runs off of errors and five hits. Noah Holland (Sandwich, Mass.) led the team with his two hits through his four at bats. Greg Gehring (Southold, NY) scored one of the runs while going 1-for-5.

 

Pitching

 

James Smiegocki got the win in game one coming in relief, going six and one third innings, while giving up three hits, two walks, and nine strikeouts.

 

Liam Cunningham (Northbridge, Mass.) was tagged with the loss after going five innings with three hits aloud and three strikeouts.

 

Game Two

 

Aiden Hagarty led the Wildcats with three RBI's on one hit and a strikeout. Tim Lombardi also hit in multiple runs with two RBI's on a two hit second game. Anthony Roman was 2-for-2 and scored three of JWU's runs.

 

Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass.) tallied a team high two hits going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Kosta Drosidis (Holden, Mass.) was 2-for-2 in the second game with a walk.

 

Pitching

 

Ryan Depatie finished the complete game allowing just six hits, with one earned run and six strikeouts.

 

Adam Twitchell was tagged with the loss after five innings of work, giving up seven hits and just two earned runs with three strikeouts.

The AMCATS will be back on the field Wednesday at home when they take on Gordon, with first pitch coming at 3:00 PM.
