Baseball Starts Season off with a Win Over Nighthawks

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Baseball team took down the Nighthawks of Newbury College this afternoon 13-3 at the New England Baseball Complex in non-conference action.

Top Performers for Newbury

 

The Nighthawks had three athletes hit .500 on the day in Brian Cipolla, Brett Cabral, and Dylan Presby, who all went 2-for-4. Cipolla and Cabral both tallied two of the three RBI's for Newbury, their final run was batted in by Chris Paulino who went 1-for-5.

 

Mark Travers pitched the majority of the innings for the Nighthawks with five, allowing only two hits and one earned run.

 

Top Performers for Anna Maria

 

The AMCATS were led at the plate by Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who was 3-for-6 at the plate, hitting in three runs and scoring twice himself. Twitchell also got on the mount, allowing only one hit with two strikeouts in an innings worth of work. Noah Holland (Sandwich, Mass.), Jackson Dobek (Natick, Mass.), and Fili Veras (Sleepy Hollow, NY) all contributed with batting of the .500 mark as well. Holland was 2-for-3 with two RBI's, while Dobek was 2-for-4 with an RBI as well as crossing the plate for three Anna Maria runs. Veras tallied himself three hits in the contest going 3-for-4, and accounting for another 2 runs.

 

Lefty Colin Pipkin (Peoria, AZ) threw four innings while giving up seven hits and just two earned, with two strikeouts. Jack Marzec (Northbridge, Mass.) got three innings of work, allowing just one hit with four strikeouts and giving up five walks.

The AMCATS will be back in action March 2nd when they head down south to Lake Myrtle, Florida. On the 2nd they will be facing Northern Vermont University-Lyndon for a double header with first pitch at 2:00 PM.
